When initially operated as a train station, it was known as the Southern Railway Station;    
bringing business and visitors into the heart of Altavista's Downtown District.

The facility was renovated in 1987, and now serves the community as a meeting room
for business organizations and civic clubs, and also individuals for various events.

Also housed in the Train Station is the Minnie and Bernard Lane Foundation,
with its continued focus on community support.
