The Town of Altavista works around the clock during snow events to clear the roads of snow and make them as safe as possible. There are designated snow emergency routes on the major streets in Town. These streets are plowed first (primary). Streets with business or are connector routes are plowed second (secondary) and then all of the residential streets are plowed third and then alleys are plowed. Trouble spots within any of these areas are handled as needed. Parking is prohibited on snow emergency routes during inclement weather. Vehicles are subject to being towed. Help us help you by keeping vehicles off of the street when snow is forecasted so we have better access to plowing. This will allow us to get the streets open in a more timely fashion. Please do not scrape your driveway till the snow plow has cleaned your neighborhood. This will avoid the frustration of having to clean your entrance twice.
We make every effort to collect garbage on our regular schedule when it snows. However, the safety of our employees and equipment is our first concern. If we are not able to collect trash on your scheduled day due to inclement weather, we will collect it the following day.
