Located approximately 7 miles outside of Altavista via Highway 43 (5552 Bedford Highway, Lynch Station, VA 24571),  the Dalton’s Landing Canoe Launch is a new access point for the Staunton River.  Use is free to the public.  The parking area and launch are open from sunrise until sunset each day.  The parking lot gate is locked each evening with no overnight parking or camping allowed.  The launch site is for self-propelled watercraft only which includes canoes, kayaks, some small flat bottom boats and tubes and floats.  Patrons are reminded to walk their watercraft down to the river as the launch is not built for sliding down.   The Town of Altavista is thrilled with this new recreational opportunity and hope that you enjoy it, too!
