The Town of Altavista Town Council has elected to participate in Virginia’s Urban Archery Program for the purpose of deer management.  Hunting is allowed on certain town-owned property during the Urban Archery Season. The Town accepts applicants generally during the for the limited number of hunting permits for the approved properties including Franklin Avenue at 10th Street, the dead end at 11th Street and at the Wastewater Treatment Plant off Lane Access Road.

Virginia’s Urban Archery season provides hunters recreational hunting opportunities one month before and three months after regular deer season, in which only antlerless deer can be taken. Bow hunting in town is also permitted during the general deer season in which bucks can also be harvested per the regulations.
